Healthy babies run in the family! Pictured is 2005 Healthy Baby Contest winner Emma Baron with Uncle Mike Ornellas. Mike was a 1974 Healthy Baby Contest second place winner. Both healthy babies proudly pose with their Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contest trophies.
One-and-a-half-year-old Emma Baron of Mililani was named the 52nd Meadow Gold Healthy Baby of Oahu on July 24, winning over the judges with her favorite dance move, the booty shake.
Nearly 400 toddlers aged 2.5 to 3.5 years of age competed in two preliminary rounds at the Town Center of Mililani and Ala Moana Center. From the two preliminary rounds, 51 contestants with the highest scores were selected to compete in the final round on July 24 at Ala Moana Center Stage.
The toddlers are judged on Physical Appearance, Healthiness, and Personality, with each category scored on a 50-point scale.
Emma earned the highest number of points of all 51 contestants, and was awarded a trophy, numerous toys and prizes, and a $2,500 U.S. Savings Bond from Meadow Gold. Emma is the daughter of Monica Ornellas and Michael Baron, who is currently serving our country in Iraq.
Apparently, healthy babies run in their family. Emma's uncle, Mike Ornellas, won 2nd Place in the 1974 Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contest as a toddler.
All winners also received various toys and prizes.
The annual Meadow Gold Healthy Baby Contests on O'ahu, Kaua'i, Maui, Moloka'i, and in Kona and Hilo on the Big Island raise community awareness of the importance of teaching children proper health and nutrition habits at an early age. Establishing proper habits starting in early childhood can lead to living a healthy lifestyle.
Congratulations to all our winners, and thank you to all our contestants and their families for making health and nutrition an important part of their lives!
