10th Annual Milk Carton Regatta

Ahoy, Mates! Roosevelt High and Kapolei Middle Schools Take First Place in Meadow Gold Milk Carton Regatta

Student teams from 27 O‘ahu schools competed in 10th annual event

Meadow Gold Dairies Hawai‘i’s 10th Annual Milk Carton Regatta drew 36 student teams from across O‘ahu on Saturday, April 29, at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park. But it was teams from Roosevelt High School and Kapolei Middle School that took home first-place honors in their divisions, $500 CompUSA gift certificates courtesy of Meadow Gold and prizes from Consolidated Theatres, Dave & Buster's, and Jamba Juice.

The Milk Carton Regatta gives students the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in science, math and industrial arts classes in a real-world project by designing, building, testing and racing a boat made almost entirely of milk cartons. Students built and raced in two-person boats they constructed using Meadow Gold and/or VIVA half-gallon milk cartons, glue and lots of tape. The regatta also provides an enjoyable way for students to learn about teamwork and develop school spirit.

Student teams competed in middle school and high school divisions. All students received VIP passes from Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park and Big Gulp coupons from 7-Eleven.

Participating schools included Academy of the Pacific, ‘Aiea High School, ‘Aina Haina Elementary, Aliamanu Middle School, Campbell High School, Castle High School, Damien Memorial Middle School, Dole Middle School, Farrington High School, Holy Family Catholic Academy, Kaimuki Christian School, Kaiser High School, Kapolei Middle School, King Intermediate School, Mililani High School, Nanakuli High School, Nanakuli Intermediate School, Pearl City High School, Private School, Radford High School, Roosevelt High School, St. Ann's Model School, St. Francis School, Wai‘anae Intermediate School, Waipahu Intermediate School, Washington Middle School, and Word of Life Academy.

Meadow Gold Dairies Hawai‘i was established in 1897 as the Dairymen’s Association, Ltd., a cooperative of several O‘ahu dairy farms. Today, Meadow Gold is Hawai‘i’s oldest and largest dairy, offering superior-quality dairy and beverage products and services to the people of these Islands. Meadow Gold operates statewide with facilities on Kaua‘i, O‘ahu, Maui and the Big Island.
