On April 23, 2005 39 middle and high school teams from around O'ahu gathered at Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park for the 9th Annual Meadow Gold Milk Carton Regatta. Approximately 1,000 students, teachers, school administrators, and supporters turned out to celebrate months of hard work and cheer them on as they paddled their milk carton boats.

Each team build their boat using just Meadow Gold and/or Viva brand half-gallon milk cartons, 100' of rope, 100 wood screws and nails, and many rolls of tape. Students designed, tested and build their two-person boats in school, then raced them on a 200-meter course in the calm waters at Magic Island.

In the Middle School Division race, 17 teams competed for overall prizes, while one team participated just for fun. Mililani Middle School's Team 2 "Milk Shake Madness" boat came in third with an overall time of 1:10.33, winning a trophy, $500 CompUSA Gift Card courtesy of Meadow Gold and FREE dairy product certificates. Kapolei Middle School's Team 1 garnered 2nd place with an overall time of 1:09.00 and received a trophy, $750 CompUSA Gift Card courtesy of Meadow Gold and FREE dairy product certificates. First place went to Mililani Middle School's Team 1 "Irresistible Chocolate Chick" boat with an overall time of 0:50.00. They were awarded a trophy, $1,000 CompUSA Gift Card courtesy of Meadow Gold, and FREE dairy product certificates.

The Kaimuki Middle School "Assembled Bunch" team paddled in to win their heat in the Middle School Division race.

The always fast High School Division race featured 21 teams. Third place went to Mililani High School's Team 2 "Dairy Ferry" boat with an overall time of 1:01.67; they received a trophy, $500 CompUSA Gift Card courtesy of Meadow Gold and FREE dairy product certificates. Campbell High School's Team 2 "Saber 1" boat came in second with a time of 1:00.33, earning them a trophy, $750 CompUSA Gift Card and FREE dairy product certificates. First place was awarded to St. Louis High School's "Last Crusade" boat with a time of 0:54.00. They received a trophy, $1,000 CompUSA Gift Card and FREE dairy product certificates.

Each team could participate in the Display Presentation and Health & Environment Workshop and Quiz activities to earn points that would be equivalent to seconds deducted from their race times. In the Middle School Division, Kaimuki Christian School earned the most points, 19.33, for their Display Presentation. Kapolei Middle School's Team 2 and Aliamanu Middle School both earned 16 points in the quiz, the most of all Middle School Division teams.
